"Life in the Fast Lane"

Fasting Journal 2:  I've been very curious about my overall health since I've been eating a low carbohydrate diet for a few years now.

And when you eat low carb you tend to eat more fat.

Of course everybody and his brother will tell you that eating fat will clog your arteries and you're asking for a heart attack.  You're basically on a suicide mission!

But I pushed on believing that eating low carb was better for me than the Standard American Diet (SAD).  I certainly have been feeling great!  But what if I was wrong.

What if I'm doing harm to myself?  What if this is a stupid fad and I'm just following the next nutty weight loss gimmick?  I mean I've tried every crazy diet out there!  Haven't you?

So about a month ago I did four things.  And these things were important to me.  After all, I'm at that age where things go wrong for a lot of people.  I'm 56 years old with about 30 pounds left to lose and I'm not all that active.  So here's what I did.

Here's what I did.

1. Breast Screening

2. Body Composition Analysis

3. Coronary Calcium Scan

4. Full blood lab panels

And the results were encouraging.

1 Breast Screening:  "Your most recent mammogram, completed June 2018 did not show any signs of breast cancer."  Whew!!!!

2.  Body Composition Analysis:  The sum of my body fat is 59.7lbs, and my lean body mass (LBM) is 93.5lbs.
The LBM consists of dry lean mass of 24.9lbs and Total Body Water is 68.6lbs

My percentage body fat is 39.1% and it should be between 18 - 28 20%.  I have work to do!

Basically what this tells me is that I have about 32.0lbs to lose.

3. Coronary Calcium Scan:  My Agatston Score was 0.2 which means I have no identifiable atherosclerotic plaque and I'm at a very low risk of cardiovascular disease.  This is awesome news!!!  Bring on the saturated fat!

4. Blood panels:  Everything is stellar.  Cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, vitamins, hemoglobin, hs-CRP... everything says I'm in tip top health.

I'm happy and comforted knowing that this way of eating is good for me.  So I will keep eating low carb and add in the Time Restricted Feeding protocol to help me lose the remaining excess fat from my body.

I think the most important thing for me was getting the Coronary Calcium Scan done.  There is heart disease in my family, including a sibling.  I just HAD to know what my score was.
