Bacon and Egg Diet Day One
and Going Forward

Captain's Log:  Bacon and egg diet going forward...
Day One.  It's 6:30am.  I've been up for about a half hour.  The diet has been super easy so far.

In all seriousness, the first day of any diet is always filled with bright, shiny, new enthusiasm.  I'm not immune to the charms of starting fresh with a new diet.  I always swear that "this is it", this is what's going to do it for me.  I'm going to be slim and reach my goals in a couple of months.  I just KNOW it!

Well, this isn't my first rodeo.  I know better than to expect miracles and that losing 30 pounds in 30 days is a pipe dream.  It's not going to happen.  I'm at peace with that.

The following journal entries are pure and honest accounts of my journey back to optimal health and what it takes to lose 50 pounds.  First the 30 I re-gained in the last two years, plus the last 20 I was struggling lose before.

For crispy, chewy bacon, twirl before frying. Yum!

By the way, I like my bacon crispy and chewy.  Before it goes in the pan I twirl it on itself to create a spiral.  This way it cooks just the way I like it.

What to drink?
What NOT to drink.

ALCOHOL:
If you read yesterday's entry, you'll know I do not drink alcohol.  It's a personal choice.  I also know that alcohol will stall any effort to lose significant weight.  If you imbibe and you want to lose weight, stop drinking for a while and see how you do.  As for me, I won't touch alcohol at all.

COFFEE:
I love coffee.  I drink mine de-caffeinated and I don't add cream nor sweeteners to it.   I like a dash of cinnamon in the brew basket as the coffee drips.  I like it strong and I drink about 3-4 cups in the morning.

I add a scoop of collagen to my first mug.  More on that later.

TEA:
I enjoy jasmine green tea from time to time.  Or de-caf orange pekoe.  I just have my tea black.

WATER:
I drink 4 or 5 glasses of water a day.  More if I have a thirst.  Less if I'm not thirsty.  I personally don't subscribe to drinking lots and lots of water.  I think it's weird to walk around sipping from a water bottle all the time.  I do not confuse hunger with thirst.  If I'm thirsty I drink water, if I'm hungry I eat.

I think forcing yourself to drink tons of water is a bit crazy plus it just dilutes and flushes out way too many nutrients and electrolytes.  That's my personal experience.

BACON AND EGGS DIET
What I eat every day.

Breakfasts consist of

4-6 slices of bacon
2-4 eggs boiled, poached or fried in 1 tbsp bacon fat

Lunches or Dinners consist of

4-6 slices of bacon
2-4 eggs boiled, poached or fried in 1 tbsp bacon fat

You will notice I say lunch OR dinner.  That's because I don't have a need for 3 meals per day.  But of course you could eat as often as you have the need to.  Everyone is different.

In the absence of carbs, you don't have to worry about calories or quantities.  If you want to try this diet, eat until you are satisfied.  Don't ever go through this feeling hungry.  That would suck.

Weight Loss Progress

DAY 1
Sunday, February 21, 2021
Start Weight: 175
Today's Weight: 175
Total Loss: 0

DAY 2
Monday, February 22, 2021
Today's Weight: 174.5
Total Loss:
-0.5

I woke up with a slight headache which I know from past experience means that I'm at the very beginning of ketone production.  It tells me that my body is using up the remaining glycogen from my liver.  This is a good thing.  I'm getting into ketosis.

DAY 3
Tuesday, February 23, 2021
Today's Weight: 174.5
Total Loss:
-0.5 (no change)

I'm not tired of eating eggs and bacon.  Yeah!  But I do know I won't be eating this way for ever.  My diet has to be real and sustainable.  I'm simply using this diet to get me started up again to be fat adapted.

Going forward, my plan is to remain as very low carb as possible.  Let's see how this all plays out.

DAY 4
Wednesday, February 24, 2021
Today's Weight: 174
Total Loss:
-1.0

I was bothered by a headache yesterday.  I know it's one of the symptoms of getting into ketosis.  I didn't take anything for it.  I knew it would go away on its own.

This morning, I woke with just a mild headache.  I could take something for it but I don't like to take pills when I know time will take care of things.  But it persisted and it was terribly annoying so I took something to make it go away.

DAY 5
Thursday, February 25, 2021
Today's Weight: 173
Total Loss:
-2.0

Nothing exciting to report.

DAY 6
Friday, February 26, 2021
Today's Weight: 172.5
Total Loss:
-2.5

Nothing exciting to report.

DAY 7
Saturday, February 27, 2021
Today's Weight: 171
Total Loss:
-4

Moving on from the bacon and egg diet.  I feel ready.

Time to Transition

Based on the Ketostix, I'm burning ketones at a high rate.  I definitely feel better already and I've lost some weight.  I wanted to get fat adapted as soon as possible and this bacon and egg diet helped me get there easily.  I feel it's time to re-introduce a variety of foods.

At this point, I'm transitioning to the Atkins Induction Phase which is a very low carb diet.  The Atkins Induction Phase is pretty much Keto as we know it today. It's liberal in protein, moderate in fat and very low in carbohydrates.

You can keep following my weight loss journey and read more about it here.
