"Life in the Fast Lane"

Fasting Journal 16:  Self care

Today I invested in myself.  I got my first manicure and pedicure.  Oh, lots of women (and men) get their nails done as a routine but I never have.  I figured I could save money and do my own nails.

But I decided to take a "pamper day" and I went ahead and got my nails done.  Oh my, what a tonic!  I can't say I enjoyed having my hands and feet manipulated by a total stranger but I enjoyed the results afterwards.  My feet and hands look so pretty!  Why haven't I done this sooner?

I think it comes down to often times putting ourselves last.  We tend to care for others first and if there's time, we may sneak in a little something for ourselves.  But the thing is, there never seems to be any time left after we're finished doing for others.

Just today, a friend called and suggested a bunch of us get together for a movie at the theatre.  My first instinct was to say no.  I have too much to do.  I'm trying to save money, I don't have time, etc...  But instead I said yes.  And it felt good to say yes.  And now I have a fun afternoon to look forward to with a bunch of crazy ladies.

I'm saying yes to life a lot more these days.  I'm becoming OK with being first for a change.  The world is still turning, chores are still getting done, I'm still saving my pennies and my family is fine.  It's OK to care for myself as much as I care for others.

And on that note, I think I'll go have a nice warm lavender-scented bath!

I couldn't do the superman exercise.  I had minor surgery yesterday on my right shoulder to remove a cyst.  Lots of stitches.  It was too painful to do the exercise.  I was fine to do the other exercises though.

Chew on this:

- Do something nice for yourself, you deserve it!

Right now I'm reading a book which is inspiring me to live a little bigger.  It inspired me to write this blog-like journal even though it's a scary thing for me to do.  And it's helping me say yes to life a lot more.

The book is titled Living Big by Pam Grout.

All done with fasting journal 16.  Let's see what tomorrow brings!
